Perspective
As you are aware, the Union Budget, 2012 will be presented by the Finance Minister on 16th March, 2012. Historically Ministry always announces a large no. of amendments in Indirect Taxes particularly in Service Tax. Therefore, the industry in general and the Finance, Taxation and Commercial executives in particular are very keen to know the implication of Budget proposals in Service Tax to their industry.
Over last 16 years, Service Tax has expanded its wings and at present covers 116 services. As a consequence, industries and trade have additional burden of this tax. In certain situations, an obligation is cast on the recipient of the service to discharge service tax liability on behalf of service provider. The provisions of service tax are getting amended frequently based on the court judgments and the tactics followed by the industries & trade. Of late, Department has started issuing Show Cause Notices to recover the revenue from the defaulters as well as based on the revenue oriented interpretation of the law. This causes a lot of anxiety and cash out flow for the industries & trade.
Objective:
To analyse the various Budget proposals made by the Finance Minister in respect of Service Tax as well as to update the significant changes that took place since Finance Act, 2011 and to bring out the likely implications thereof on the industries and to guide the assessees to comply with the provisions of the law.
